The Signal

Every transmission starts somewhere.

The Collective gave you five names. Starting today, The Transmission pulls each one into focus — one voice at a time, in the order the frequency demands. And every frequency has a source.

JAMES I.V. is the Signal.

The signal formed in motion. Chicoutimi, Quebec at the start — then Japan, Florida, Michigan, Mississippi, and the Chicagoland area, each stop leaving its residue on the sound. That nomadic wiring is why nothing in the catalog sits still: it’s music rooted in movement and shifting perspectives, built by someone who never had one hometown to answer to.

He started as an emcee. The production came later, out of necessity — the ideas in his head outgrew the beats available to him. So he stopped waiting on beats and built the machine instead: HecticMindstate Music, the label and platform; HecticMinds, the collective of musicians, visual artists, filmmakers, photographers, and writers that orbits it. Inside that ecosystem he moves between roles — producer, organizer, visual storyteller — connecting individual projects into one larger, ongoing narrative.

The influences run wide and deliberate: films, conversations, analog textures, and trailblazers from The Bomb Squad and DJ Muggs to The Alchemist, Goldie, The Neptunes, and Parliament-Funkadelic. Structured chaos, on purpose. A JAMES I.V. track is built for listeners who want layered, original, evolving sound — not a single style on repeat.

Six albums deep, the signal is still moving. Start anywhere on HECTICMUSIC — it all tunes back to the same source.

Full bio on the HECTICMINDS page. Wednesday, the spotlight swings to the man who shapes the sound behind the sound.
