The Mirror

Some tracks look back at you.

The Human Condition is the Mirror. Two voices, one reflection.

THC is the twin-led duo of Quince and Cinque Martin — emcees, songwriters, producers, vocalists, musicians. West side of Chicago, Church of God in Christ household: the foundation was choirs, services, and revival trips. Quince held down the drums as church percussionist; Cinque grew up on the keys and the organ. School stacked another layer — drumline for Quince, jazz band and a handful of instruments for Cinque — and the first original songs were written for church and local groups before the two of them tightened into a duo.

Columbia College Chicago formalized what was already in motion: Quince in Music Production, Cinque in Performance and Songwriting. The result is a sound that lives at the intersection of gospel roots, soul, and forward-leaning pop-hop — melodic, groove-heavy, emotionally direct. Music that asks the quiet 3AM questions and holds the reflection steady until you recognize yourself in it.

The influence map tells the whole story: Steely Dan, The Winans, and The Clark Sisters on one wall; Jodeci, Aaliyah, Syd, SZA, Anderson .Paak, Vince Staples, and Freddie Gibbs on the other. Sacred and street, in harmony.

Away from the mics: Quince instructs on the racetrack and keeps an ‘84 Cutlass alive; Cinque runs distance and plays chess. Precision people. It shows in the songs — emotional resonance balanced against technical discipline, always moving forward.

One more thing. If you’re subscribed, you already hold a piece of this story: ARCHIVE_001 — the Cinques Theme — was the first drop from the vault. If you’re not, the signal is one click away.
