Waxy Kilroy — illustrated portrait of Kiro Williams, HecticMindstate emcee, songwriter and DJ

The Wildcard. Unpredictable by design.

Kiro Williams. Born Okinawa, Japan — Marine father, Eisa-dancer mother, hybrid perspective from day one. Deejaying at fourteen; synths and drum programming soon after, with poetry and lyrics running parallel. Landed in Chicago in high school, linked with The Human Condition, and joined the HecticMinds after JAMES I.V. recognized a sound nobody else had. Cinematic soundscapes: Hip-Hop, Electronic, R&B, genre lines treated as suggestions. Off the clock: gaming, vinyl, culinary expeditions, chess, and several ongoing theories — some with footnotes. Influences: Bernard Purdie, Yuji Ohno, Flying Lotus, Kaytranada, Black Milk. Unpredictable by design.

Emcee, songwriter, producer, and DJ, raised in the Kokusai Dori district of Naha. He learned to program synths and drum machines at his cousin’s studio while building a parallel love of English through poetry, short stories, and lyrics — technical skill and storytelling became the foundation of his approach as both producer and writer. He relocated to Chicago in his final year of high school to live with his grandmother, where meeting Cinque and Quince Martin took him deeper into production and lyricism. The wider influence list runs through McFadden & Whitehead, Gwen Guthrie, and Keni Burke to Pharrell, Kanye West, Thundercat, and The Internet. Through layered production, narrative-driven lyrics, and a genre-fluid palette, he continues to expand his sound while contributing a global perspective to the HecticMindstate ecosystem.
