WAXY KILROY

EMCEE / SONGWRITER / PRODUCER

Kiro Williams, better known as Waxy Kilroy, is a multifaceted emcee, songwriter, music producer, and DJ who intricately blends the sounds of Hip-Hop, Electronic, and R&B genres to create a unique auditory experience. His journey into the realm of music and artistry began in the culturally rich streets of Okinawa, Japan, where he was born and raised in the Kokusai Dori district of Naha. The son of a retired U.S. Marine who found love in an Eisa dancer at an Oban festival, Waxy's life has been a beautiful meld of diverse cultures and sounds right from the beginning.

Waxy's entry into the world of music started early when, at just fourteen, he began deejaying in local clubs. These initial forays into music were greatly influenced by his cousin, the owner of a local recording studio, who taught him how to program synths and drum machines. Alongside his burgeoning interest in music production, Waxy found a love for the English language, which he explored through writing poetry, short stories, and ultimately lyrics, revealing an innate talent for storytelling through music.

In a life-changing move, Waxy relocated to Chicago during his last year of high school to live with his grandmother. It was here that he encountered Cinque Attucks and Quinn Martin of the HecticMinds production duo, The Human Condition. This meeting sparked a series of collaborations that not only honed Waxy's skills but also solidified his passion for music production and lyricism. Through Cinque and Quinn, Waxy was introduced to JAMES I.V., a key figure in the HecticMindstate Music family, who was immediately taken with Waxy's distinctive production style, lyrical prowess, and creative eccentricities. The synergy was unmistakable, leading Waxy to join the HecticMinds collective, a move that would mark a significant milestone in his career.

Beyond the studio, Waxy boasts a rich tapestry of interests that mirror the depth and diversity of his music. An avid gamer, vinyl collector, conspiracy theorist, foodie, and chess enthusiast, Waxy embodies a blend of intellectual curiosity and cultural appreciation that informs his artistic expression. His production style is a testament to his wide-ranging musical influences, drawing inspiration from the likes of Bernard Purdie, Yuji Ohno, McFadden & Whitehead, Gwen Guthrie, and Keni Burke, to modern innovators such as Pharrell, Kanye West, Flying Lotus, Kaytranada, Thundercat, Black Milk, and The Internet.

Waxy Kilroy’s journey from the vibrant streets of Okinawa to the bustling creative hubs of Chicago illustrates a life dedicated to the exploration and celebration of music. Through his intricate beats, thought-provoking lyrics, and innovative production techniques, Waxy continues to push the boundaries of genre and style, cementing his place in the ever-evolving landscape of global music culture.
